Managing People, Time and Work

About me – who’s behind HowtoManage.net

Hi, I am Kim Davis, a recovering CPA and NLP Master Practitioner living on the Gold Coast in Australia.

AboutI completed my first degree back in 1982. It was in administration. I loved every minute. I majored in Accounting and Information technology (very new thing back then) and went on to do public and private sector auditing. Did not love every minute of that.

Being young and naive, I thought I knew at least the basics of how the business world worked. Wrong!! To paraphrase a famous quote – “it’s about the people stupid”. I remember thinking “If only people would just do what they were told – why can’t they be more like computers?”

And ditto for myself – “why can’t I be motivated on demand? How come when I decide I want to do something I don’t always follow through? Why do I always put off doing my taxes? Why do I get so easily distracted and lose my focus?”

Turns out people aren’t machines or human resources, and that’s a good thing. Time can’t be managed, only the things we do in it. And as for money, calling it something like financial resources totally hides that it is one of the most emotional things in most people’s lives. We manage it as well as or as poorly as we manage ourselves probably.

I am not creating this site as an “expert” or for the experts, but I do have an extensive background in management of people, time and money.

I am putting together this resource based on what I have learned over the years. My experience, my knowledge and wisdom. I want to explain the complicated bits, get down to the nitty gritty and make it understandable to ordinary people. Well, that’s my hope anyway.

I am a master practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP. For those unknowing souls, that means I have studied long and hard how people work if you like. Not just their observable behaviors, but how they process information from all their senses and then make sense of it to make their way in their world.

Apart from my degree in Business Administration, I have one in Multimedia and a Masters degree in e Learning. As you might have guessed, I love to learn, ok so maybe I am even a nerd. I think the bottom line though was it bugged me that the world didn’t work the way it was supposed to in my mechanical understanding and I wanted to know why.

I am passionate also about business and change management, and Internet programming. I have a lovely daughter and 2 granddaughters. And I am much better now with people and time and money than I used to be.
